Sports halls in general and football stadiums in particular, were never isolated from their environment. Political and social moods and trends were often able to infiltrate the terraces, finding there a most welcoming platform for loud expression.
Racism is not a unique phenomenon to Israeli sports and is not the common lot of most sports fans in this country. Nevertheless, it seems that in recent years, it is able to spread and strengthen, expanding sometimes even to political action outside the stadiums. This, without proper counter action of Israeli sports authorities or law enforcement agencies.
IFAR – Israeli Fans Against Racism, is an initiative of active sports fans of various sports clubs in Israel. The initiative was born out of the ongoing dissatisfaction from the incapability of the supervising bodies to engage the phenomenon, and from the obvious unwillingness to enforce UEFA’s regulations regarding racist activities.
IFAR was created towards the end of the 2010-2011 season in an attempt to serve as an archive, in which testimonies of racist activity in Israeli sports will be gathered in hope of serving as a platform for future coercion of the phenomenon.
היכלי הספורט בכלל ואיצטדיוני הכדורגל בפרט, מעולם לא היו מנותקים מסביבתם. הלכי רוח פוליטיים וחברתיים חדרו תכופות גם ליציעים, שם תמיד מצאו פורקן חסר רסן.
גזענות איננה תופעה ייחודית לספורט בישראל, ואינה מנת חלקם של רוב אוהדי הספורט בארץ. אף-על-פי-כן, נראה כי בשנים האחרונות היא מוצאת ביטוי הולך ומתעצם, הגולש לעתים אף לפעילות מחוץ ליציעים. כל זאת, ללא מענה מצד רשויות הספורט ואכיפת החוק בישראל.
IFAR – "אוהדים ישראלים נגד גזענות", היא יוזמה של אוהדי ספורט פעילים בקרב קהלים של קבוצות שונות בישראל. היוזמה נולדה מתוך חוסר שביעות הרצון המתמשך מאי רצונם/יכולתם של הגורמים האמונים על הפיקוח על גילויי הגזענות ביציעי הספורט בישראל, ומהיעדר הנכונות לאכוף את תקנון אופ"א ביחס לתופעה. IFAR הוקם בסוף עונת המשחקים 2010-2011, במטרה לשמש ארכיון בו ייאגרו עדויות על פעילות גזענית בספורט הישראלי, בתקווה שעדויות אלו ישמשו בסיס לאכיפה אמיתית של התופעה בידי הגורמים הרשמיים.
